Why we won’t decontaminate coaches, wagons-NRC

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has said the decontamination of her locomotives, coaches and wagons of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) will only take place when it resumes operations.

The NRC Managing Director Mr Fidet Okhiria made this known on Sunday while speaking on plans to disinfect its facilities as a result of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the fumigation will only be done when the corporation is ready to start operations.  Okhiria who was represented by the Director of Operations Mr Niyi Alli disclosed that Corporation has commenced the decontamination of all facilities in its office premises, workshops, station buildings and residences within its headquarters in Lagos and the Lagos District offices.

He said the Corporation committed huge resources to fumigation of its premises because Lagos has been the worst hit.

“As we all know, Lagos State is the worst hit by COVID 19 in Nigeria from statistics available till date, hence the quick Intervention of the NRC Management, engaging services of environmental health professionals in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department of the Lagos Mainland Local Government in driving the process of active and targeted decontamination.

“This process is at the instance of the NRC Management and commitment backed by resources to facilitate the logistics, manpower, potent decontaminants and the entire project delivery.”
