An Islamic Cleric, Sheik AbdulSalam Adeola Araokanmi has urged Nigerians on the need for parental guidance and the importance of being a good parent.
The Sheik, who spoke at the Ramadan lecture organized by the Fateemah group in Najimdeen Walistijabah Society of Nigeria (NAJWAT) on Sunday, 2nd of May 2020, at the association headquarters in Lagos, explained that in Islam, there is a need for parental guidance which helps to shape the behaviour of a child.
He said that parents serve as a mirror in which the child looks and as well as a small god who guards the steps the child takes in life.
Supporting his lecture by verses of the Qur’an, Sheik Araokanmi, who spoke on the theme of the event, ‘The role of good men in the matrimonial home’, noted that a good man has the responsibility of guiding his wife and the children to make a better society.
According to him, parents need to train their ward according to Islamic doctrine; the Holy Month serves as a period for making a good impact in one’s life. This month all Muslims are enjoined to engage in good acts to earn more reward from Allah.
Speaking on the significance of the last ten days in Ramadan, Sheik Araokanmi emphasized the importance of ‘Lailatul Qodri’, which he said that destiny can be changed for the better, for those who request such from Allah in the Night of Majesty.
He empathized that, “The Prophet enjoined men to get married for four reasons, Wealth, Good Family, Beauty and Deen. The best reason is to marry a woman because she is a believer. Hence, a man must help his wife in practising the deen in marriage; he must provide all necessary things needed for her to be a better believer in order to attain a greater reward in life and the afterlife from Allah.
“Parents should oversee the affairs of their children, both western education and Islamic learning. The home is a basis for building a strong and worthy society”, he said.
