FRSC warns road users against Violating Traffic Rules

The Lagos and Ogun Zonal Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) ACM Peter Kibo has warned road users especially motorists against violations of traffic rules and regulations.

He said violating a single out of rules guiding the use of road always leading to traffic crashes.
ACM Kibo expressed sadness as vehicle owners still derived joy in driving mechanically deficiency vehicles on the road despite they knew the havoc such vehicle could cause should it breakdown on the road.

The FRSC RS 2 Commander disclosed this while on an official inspection to the scene of tanker explosion that occurred in the early hour of Tuesday around new Kara market, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, killing two people while 13 vehicles burnt to ashes.
The ugly incident, ACM Kibo, said involved five tankers loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), one with full loaded of Diesel, two gas-laden tankers, three trucks out of which one was loaded with fish and two cars.

He explained that a fully loaded trailer fell on the road around 4am in the new Kara market, causing serious gridlock while a tanker laden with fuel in the traffic jam suddenly burst into flames affecting seven other trucks and two cars in the process.
The Zonal Commander, said henceforth, any road user and transport fleet operators that failed to comply with traffic rules especially driving rickety vehicle and drunk driving on the road, risking arrest and prosecution.
He listed features of rickety or mechanical deficiency vehicles as lack of funtional brake, horn, headlamps, rear lights, worn out tyres, broken windscreen, speed limits device and other dilapidated components, saying vehicles with these conditions were not road worthy as they constituted nuisance on the roads and always causing fatal crashes.
He admonished motorists to drive with caution to avoid road crashes during this rainy season, adding that wet season creates unfavorable driving conditions.  
“Driving carefully in rainy season because of foggy weather, wet road surfaces and poor visibility always reduce road crashes during rainy seasons,” he added.

He appealed to motorists to eschew excess speed, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, lane/ route violation, obstruction, use of cell phone while driving and driving mechanically deficient vehicle on the road.
