SON enforcement team nab substandard roofing sheet dealer in Benue

A combined team of officers of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Makurdi office and DSS Benue state command have arrested a substandard roofing sheet dealer in the state.

The SON at the weekend explained that the enforcement activity was carried out on Joe Investment Co.Nig, a Distributor of Building materials in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government of Benue State in line with the SONs zero tolerance on substandard goods in Nigerian markets.

According to the agency, it became necessary to carry out this raid because the dealer failed to honour the invitation by SON to respond to a consumer complaint against him on two occasions. On arriving at the warehouse, the same man invited the DPO to arrest SON officers but they met stiff resistance from the DSS. 

“The dealer in question is known for sales and distribution of Aluminum roofing materials of as low as 0.23mm gauge and 8ft galvanized steel roofing sheets to the locals of the remote Benue Community.

“The State Coordinator Mr Olowu John Alexander. The raid was carried out at the behest of a complainant who purchased from the shop owner and after surveillance, it was found out that the seller had been carrying out the sale of substandard roofing sheets and when confronted after product failure he never shows remorse but carries on as if he was untouchable.

“As SON  Officials and security agents swooped on the scene for the raid the shop was shut down and products put on hold and the perpetrator has been asked to report at the SON office in Makurdi for further questioning. While the Police investigation is ongoing,” the statement by SON further explained.
