LASG trains students on acquisition of financial literacy, soft skills
In a bid to foster financial literacy and enhanced productivity, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, has organised a seminar on financial literacy and soft skills for students of the 19 Lagos State Skills Acquisition Centres.
In her address at the opening ceremony of the programme held at the Skills Acquisition Centre, Oja-Oba Model Market, Adeniji-Adele, Lagos, the Commissioner for WAPA, Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, stated that the training was designed to enhance a type of marketing process that promotes products and services, even as it educates budding entrepreneurs on basic skills.
She said about 55 students of the 19 Lagos State Skills Acquisition Centres spread across the metropolis would be trained on financial literacy, relevant soft skills and access to financial support for their business from the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund so that they can set up and sustain their businesses after acquiring relevant knowledge.
Dada, represented at the event by the Director, Skills Acquisition and Development Unit, WAPA, Ms. Adejoke Oshodi-Olasunkanmi, added that the programme was targeted at developing business activities with a form of advancement on new ventures, utilising business intelligence and communication links to enhance business processes.
In his contribution, Mr. Funso Ogunromode, Head of Small and Medium Enterprises, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, highlighted the different ways and requirements to access finance through the Fund, which was conceived as a means of support, and directed at entrepreneurs for financial independence towards the economic stability of the State.
The forum also afforded participants the opportunity to register their businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission and enlightened them on ways to pay taxes as budding entrepreneurs.
