World Sight Day:LBSL partners pharmaceutical companies to sensitises passengers on good sight
The Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) has said that over thousands of Lagos residents have been educated on how to cultivate good and healthy habits to enhance their vision and prevent impaired sight.
The Managing Director of LBSL, Mr Idowu Oguntona, who made this known in a statement in Lagos on Saturday, said that this was done by the group to commemorate the World Sight Day.
He said that the three-day enlightenment was conducted in conjunction with a private medical organisation, Novartis and Reimagining Medicine.
Oguntona said that the three enlightenment initiative was one of the ways through which the company caters for the wellbeing of its passengers.
“As a responsive organisation, we decided to do an out-reach to our customers who are our major stakeholders.
“This is because we realised that it is when our passengers are hale and healthy that is when they can continue to patronise and enjoy our services.
“Apart from this, we also know that the welfare of our passengers ultimately determine our own welfare as well.
“So, I am very hopeful that with the information that were provided through this out-reach and enlightenment session, our passengers and by extension, Lagosians will begin to take seriously the status of their eye sight and well-being,” Oguntona said.
He also advised road users to take extra caution in planning their journeys during this ‘Ember months’ by being mindful of all kinds of negative connotations attached to the months.
Oguntona also urged all road users to be responsible in their conducts, especially when driving, by abstaining from alcohol before embarking on their journeys.
The Managing Director warned both drivers and passengers to be more careful and to always exercise discretion to be safe at all times while also considering the safety of other road users.
Oguntona appealed to passengers to patronise LBSL buses for maximum comfort, reliability, efficiency, and safety, adding that the company was committed to increasing its level of service delivery to the people of Lagos.
According to him, the company will do everything possible in ensuring that passengers have pleasurable experience on its buses.
Earlier, Dr Uzomma Benson, the team leader of Novartis, said that the awareness and sensitisation was meant to educate the passengers about cardiovascular disease.
Benson said that cardiovascular disorder could also lead to different eye related problems.
He said: “People that have cardiovascular disease may be at a higher risk of developing certain types of eye problems.”
He said that the results of some findings conducted informed the decision of the organisation to continually sensitise people on the importance of regular screening of their hearts and eyes.
Benson commended the management of LBSL for their understanding and approach to the partnership which had created awareness on `Good Eye Health Guide’ in celebration of this year’s World Sight Day.
