Asia Will Assist Us Pay Our China Loans – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that his government borrowed money from China because the Asian nation was willing to assist Nigeria with its infrastructure.
In an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, Buhari stated this while justifying his government’s choice to seek loans from China.
Anyone willing to come and aid Nigeria’s infrastructure, including as roads, rail, and power, will be welcomed, he says.
According to data from the Debt Management Office, Nigeria has borrowed $2.02 billion in loans from China since 2015, bringing the country’s total debt portfolio to $3.40 billion as of March 31, 2021.
“We take those (loans) where they’re needed.”
