KWASU: PRAD Mass communication students hold seminar on Social-Economic, Youths Development

The Kwara State University students of Mass Communication Students Department, Malete, on Wednesday held its annual Socio-Economic and Youths Development (SEYDS) seminar.

The seminar which was organized by 400 Level students of Public Relations and Advertising sequence tagged, “Rising above the hurdles, becoming an exceptional Youth in Nigeria.”

While delivering his welcome address, The head of Department, Mass communication department, Dr. Semiu Bello commended the efforts of the organizers, appreciated the attendees and invited guest for taking out of their tight schedule to witness the program.

The Dean faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Kwara state university, Malate, Dr Isiaka Aliagan ably represented by Sub-Dean of ICT Faculty, Dr Kennedy while speaking at the event said that Nigeria youths are worried as a result of inflation, stress and difficulties they are facing. Adding that the youths have adopted a wrong method to cope with the situation of the country.

Similarly, the Assistant Commander of Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kwara state command, Mrs Roseline Aina, in her speech enlightened the students on the effect of drug abuse, adding that the act may leads to the cause of social vices in the society. She however advised the students not to engage in misuse of drugs.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dean Students Affairs, Kwara state university, Malete, Professor Moshood Mahmud Jimba while delivering his remarks urged the students to face their primary assignment in the campus, noting that love in Nigeria nowadays is 90 percent fake.

However, the Director centre for Entrepreneurship, Kwasu, in person of Dr Ojo Sunday, in his speech admonished the students to be a person of integrity, noting that integrity is the shortcut to stardom. He also stated teamwork and GOD FACTOR as some of the keynotes to rising above the hurdles to becoming an exceptional youth in Nigeria.

In the same vein, a Lecturer from the department of Politics and Governance, faculty of Political Science, Kwasu, Mr Seyid Hassan Cisse enlightened the students on the impact of participating in election process, advised them to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to exercise their civic right by electing a leader of their choice.
He made clear, to the students the meaning, the pros and cons and the essentials of Politics. He stated “speak for yourself and let your position move” Work with political Parties and shun aparthy.

The academic event which featured spoken words poetry and drama thus gave it an edutainment outlook and the event however, was concluded by the course lecturer’s admonition Mr Yusuf Sulaiman to the students urging them to good ambassadors of the university.
