NiMet Boss Lists Importance Of Aviation Statistics
Developing and establishing a sustainable database on aviation for socio-economic development of the country, and discussing challenges as well as proffer solutions especially on quality data production, are vital to a vibrant, safe, secure and profitable Aviation Industry in Nigeria.
This was the assertion made by the Director General CEO of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) Prof Mansur Bako Matazu while presenting a keynote address at the opening of the 29th Aviation Statistical Committee (ASC) meeting holding at Global Village Hotels and Suites, Nasarawa state.
Prof. Matazu who was represented by the General Manager Planning Research and Statistics, Mr Abdulrasheed Mohammad, commended the Aviation Statistical Committee’s role of harmonizing Statistical data produced in the Nigerian Aviation Sector, also stressed that the relevance of Aviation Statistics in Air Transport operations and decision making is the bedrock that determines the basis for the desired growth and development of the sector.
Prof. Matazu rationalized that no effective and meaningful planning can be made without adequate and accurate data as well as efficient and effective analysis and utilization of the outcome of such analysis.
In his opening remarks, the Director, Planning Research and Statistics at the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Chairman of the Aviation Statistical Committee, Alhaji M. R. Shehu urged the Ministry and it’s Agencies to endeavour to participate actively in the Annual Aviation Statistical Survey as well as ensure the execution of programmes and projects that would lead to the attainment of the Sustainable development Goals (SDGs) as it relates to the Aviation Sector.
As part of the meeting which is hosted by NiMet, a paper titled Impact of Data Integrity in Meteorological Forecast was presented by Mr James Adamu who is the Executive Assistant on Agricultural Meteorology to the DG/CEO of NiMet
The meeting is expected to last from 9th to 13th January, 2023.
