NACAN Calls for Enhanced Modernization of Air Traffic Communications

For the country to be the leading air traffic communications department in Africa, modernisation of air traffic communications professionals to promote safety and economical operations of Air traffic navigations services must be enhanced.

This assertion was made by the president of the National Air traffic Communicators Association of Nigeria (NACAN) Rabiu Mohammed Sani while commenting on the association’s 2023 conference themed “mordenising air traffic communication profession to promote safety’.

According to Sani, Nigeria remains giant in various fields in the continent and must also lead in the mordenisation of its air traffic communications to further boost safety.

The NACAN  president explained that only mordenisation will give the country lead adding, that the government through NAMA has tried in the training of personnel but there was need for them to do more.

He called on the management of NAMA to speed up the installation of the AHMS machines which was started many years ago adding that only Lagos and Kano stations have been installed but not completed.

NACAN boss also expressed delight that the issue of manpower shortage were being addressed by NAMA to some extent with more than 100 new employees in communications

He however decried the lack of foreign training as a result of non approval from the ministry of aviation.

On the forthcoming NACAN conference, Sani said the conference slated for  November 15 to 17 2023 in Kano, will be witnessed by some states governors, aviation minister, heads of parastatal and aviation stakeholders around the country and African region.
