LASG Launches 15 New OMIBUS for Efficient, Clean, and Sustainable Transportation

The Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu on wednesday Commissioned 15 new OMNIBUS FRP 40 Passenger Boats for efficient, clean, and sustainable transportation.
The event which was held at badore terminal, Ajah Lagos. Sanwo-olu said “these ferries symbolize our commitment to transforming Lagos into a city that thrives on efficient, clean, and sustainable transportation.
He said his administration has made strategic investments to ensure that commuting on our inland waterways becomes a viable and preferred choice.
According to him, by introducing these 15 new ferries, we are not only saving countless hours otherwise lost in traffic but also optimizing our public investment in water transportation.
“Beyond the ferries, we’ve constructed 15 new jetties and terminals, established the groundbreaking Waterways Monitoring and Data Management Center (LASWA Control Room), acquired two additional patrol boats, and set up a Search and Rescue Unit alongside a floating clinic for emergencies.
Speaking earlier the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, celebrated the launch of the new Omi-Bus Ferries which he said to be a testament to collective commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Lagos residents.
The commisioner said, This initiative is a bold step towards achieving a more efficient, sustainable, and accessible transportation system, reflecting our unwavering dedication to progress and innovation.
He said, Omi-Bus Ferries project is not just about improving transportation; it is about transforming the way we live and move. It is about connecting communities, fostering economic growth, and reducing the stress and congestion that often characterize our daily commutes. These state-of-the-art ferries have modern amenities and safety features, ensuring passengers a comfortable and secure journey, and heralding a new era of convenience and efficiency in Lagos.
Osiyemi thanked the Governor for his  visionary leadership and tireless efforts in prioritizing the development of our inland waterways have been nothing short of inspiring.
He said, “Under your administration, Lagos has witnessed remarkable transformations, and the launch of the Omi-Bus Ferries is yet another testament to your unwavering commitment to driving sustainable development and enhancing the welfare of our citizens. Your leadership is a beacon of hope, guiding us towards a brighter and more prosperous Lagos”.
The General Manager LASWA, Mr oluwadamilola Emmanuel, in his remarks also thanked His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his unwavering support and innovative leadership in improving transportation infrastructure.
Emmanuel said, the unveiling of Nigerian-made modern ferries is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the Lagos State Government in developing water transport in Lagos State.
In his words, Lagos has always been a trailblazer in governance and standards setting, and LASWA has been aligned with this approach in setting the standards for inland waterways’ infrastructure and services across the nation.
He further said, Our commitment to sustainable development has garnered international recognition and support, with partnerships with esteemed foreign entities such as the Future Cities Nigeria Project of the UK Government, the UK NIAF, and the ongoing Waterways Investment and Development of the Environment (WIDE-LAG, OMI-EKO Project) jointly sponsored by the European Union, European Investment Bank, French Development Agency, and the Lagos State Government.
In his remarks, he re-emphasized on the achievement again saying the project would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our parent Ministry, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Carverton Marine of the Caverton Offshore Group, the dedicated Lagos State Waterways Authority staff, and stakeholders.
“I commend your hard work and collaborative spirit, which have been crucial in bringing this project to fruition.  We are not just launching the OmiBus ferries today; we are launching a promise of better service, greater efficiency, and an enhanced commuting experience.
