LASG Unveil Transport Policy to Enhance Sustainable Transport Systems

In a vision to provide a sustainable  transport system that is  integrated, comfortable, reliable and  efficient, the Lagos State Government unveiled the  review of transport policy after 5years.

The event which was held at Sheraton hotel at Ikeja was attended by the Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was represented by is Deputy mr Babafemi hamzat, hourable Commissioner for Transportation,  Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, SA to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, Former Commissioner for Transportation, Dr, Frederic Olade Oladehinde and other transport stakeholders and parastaters.

In the unveiling of the transport policy, the state’s transport system has been divided into 14 elements in developing the policy which are: Road infrastructure, rail transport, air transport, inland waterways transport, traffic management, public transport, urban road freight, non motorised transport, rail transport, among others.

The Deputy Governor of the Dr. Babafemi Hamzat in his speech commended the efforts of the transportation ministry and all other transport parastaters.

He said,  “Today, we unveil the long-awaited Lagos State Transport Policy, a culmination of rigorous planning, meticulous research, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of our people through efficient, sustainable, and accessible transportation.

He further said “am sure we all know the challenges that have plagued our transportation system for far too long, ranging from traffic congestion to pollution, to inadequate infrastructure among others.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi in his keynote address described the unveiling as a significant milestone in the collective journey towards a more efficient, safe and sustainable transportation system for all residents.

“As we unveil our Transport Policy today, it is imperative that we chart a course that not only addresses the challenges of today but also lays the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous tomorrow, he emphasized.

 

Also at the unveiling, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, in his words seek for the support and cooperation of the general public on the implementation of the policy.

In his closing remark, he adminished citizens to stay committed and remain focused on our shared goal of building a transportation system that not only meets the needs of today but also anticipates the demands of tomorrow.
