On Wednesday, numerous passengers were left stranded after a Kaduna-bound train from Abuja derailed at Asha station in the federal capital territory (FCT).

The incident occurred around 3:52 pm, less than 30 minutes after the train departed from Kubwa station in Abuja, according to a passenger who spoke to TheCable on condition of anonymity. “Passengers are currently stranded as there are no signs of authorities being notified,” the passenger reported.

This marks the second derailment in just two weeks. On May 26, a train traveling from Rigasa station in Kaduna to Abuja derailed in a mountainous area near Jere, resulting in three carriages going off the tracks. Fortunately, there were no casualties in that incident.

Security operatives were present at the scene of the latest derailment to safeguard the stranded passengers and provide support. However, passengers expressed frustration over the lack of immediate response from authorities.
