Lagos Transport Commissioner, Osiyemi Leads Officials on Redline Rail Trial, Confirms Readiness for Passenger Operations

In a crucial step towards the launch of the Redline Rail service, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, led key officials from the Ministry of Transportation on a passenger trial ride between Ikeja and Agbado.
This non-fee paying journey marked a significant phase in the ongoing testing process, bringing the Redline Rail closer to its official commencement.
Over the past six weeks, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has been conducting test runs without passengers, achieving a 90 percent success rate. The current trial phase, which includes non-fee paying passengers, is designed to observe passenger behavior along the corridor. This will provide LAMATA with critical insights needed to refine operations before the Redline Rail opens to the public.
The train departed from Ikeja Train Station at 1:19 PM, making stops at Agege and Iju stations before arriving at Agbado Train Station at 1:47 PM. The return journey began at 2:50 PM, with the train reaching Ikeja at 3:19 PM.
Key officials accompanying the Commissioner included the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olawale Musa; LAMATA’s Managing Director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Toyin Aremu; and various Directors from the Ministry of Transportation.
This trial ride represents a critical milestone in ensuring the readiness of the Redline Rail for passenger operations, demonstrating the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enhancing public transportation infrastructure.
