Two former Nigerian internationals and Adron ambassadors, Daniel Amokachi and Mutiu Adepoju, have launched the eighth edition of Adron Games 2024 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The games, organised by Adron Foundation, an arm of the property merchants, Adron Homes and Property, is an annual event conceived to foster unity, cohesion and healthy living among staff of the organisation scattered across the country.

The games will hold on 29th and 30th September at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Managing Director of Adron Homes, Mrs. Adenike Ajobo, told journalists that the event was meant to be a symbol of wellness and excellence.

“Adron Games have been a platform for growth, because we believe in promoting physical fitness. We are expanding it; and we are allowing participants to showcase their talents. We are confident that we are inspiring athletes.

“As we begin this edition of the games, I want to appeal to participants; let us embrace the spirit and values of sportsmanship,” she said.

Another senior official of Adron, Mrs. Tola Alonge, went down memory lane, explaining how the property company had been contributing to sports development since about ten years ago.

“The games started in 2016; the first venue was Agege in Lagos. We couldn’t hold it in 2017. However, by 2018, when we held it at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), more people had joined the fray. The unity of our staff has been the focus.

“In 2019, we held the one that we called Festival of Fitness in Ibadan here. But in 2020, it could not hold as a result of the challenges posed by COVID-19. In 2021, we went back to hold it in YABATECH. Also, we couldn’t hold it in 2023. This year, here we are now in Ibadan. All the state of the federation will take part in the games,” she said.

Director General, Sales and Marketing of the Company, Ihuoma Azuru, also reiterated that the games were meant for corporate wellness building, adding that “we use it to build resilience in our professional pursuit.

“And apart from the games, during the two days, we will be showcasing our products on discount.

One of the ambassadors, Amokachi, explained that what Adron Homes was doing with the games were being replicated in two other countries.

“But I have to say that sponsorship is very key in sports. Look at our country; we just came back from the Olympics without winning a medal. There is need for serious sponsorship. Adron has been promoting sports since over seven years now. We need to galvanise all these efforts like Adron is doing.

“And the media too needs to help us. All hands should be on this. I see Adron Games as a replica of the National Sports Festival,” he said.

Also, the Director of Sports of the organisation, Emmanuel Oladapo, while unveiling the jerseys to be used by each state, cautioned the participants, asking them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship during the two-day event.
