LASWA Concludes 4th Water Safety Program, Highlights Waterway Safety Education

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) successfully concluded the 4th edition of the Lagos Water Savvy Kid’s Program, a week-long water safety and swimming training exercise for 50 school pupils from Bariga/Somolu axis.

The program, which was held recently, culminated in a grand finale at Bloomgrey Pool, Gbagada, featuring exciting swimming competitions, water safety demonstrations, and awards for outstanding participants.

At the event, the General Manager of LASWA, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring safety for all waterways users, particularly school children, highlighting LASWA’s efforts in providing life jackets and boating education to riverine schools.

The Honorable Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized the importance of water safety education in reducing accidents and promoting sustainable transportation, noting that the program aligns with the state’s Transportation Master Plan.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, stressed the need for community engagement and collaboration in achieving a safer and more inclusive water transportation system, encouraging parents and community leaders to support the initiative.

The program aimed to Reduce water phobia among pupils, instill confidence in water usage; Promote governance at the grassroots level, foster phobia-free, sustainable, and inclusive development.
