UN-POLAC Sues for Peaceful Coexistence in River State…

 

In a bid to promote peaceful Coexistence and curb criminal activities in the country,The Federal government has been urged to establish and revitalize Forest security Corps aimed at curbing crime and criminalities in the Nation’s forest which has become safe haven for criminals.

The Deputy Country President of United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Center,( UN-POLAC,)Amb.Sir Peter Ohagwa made the call at the inaugural Convention of Rivers State UN POLAC Chapter.

 

Sir Ohagwa who stressed the need to also engage local vigilante from various rural communities across the Federation to be part of the formation,added that the corps should be trained vigorously by the military and equipped with sophisticated weapons before deployment into the forest .

The Deputy Country President while suing for peaceful coexistence, tolerance as well as good of the citizenry in the State,urged the stakeholders to shield their swords and resolve their grievances amicably,adding that Rivers state plays a significant role in the economic development of our country .

“Rivers state is the fifth most populous State in Nigeria with over three million residents, it is also second largest economy in the country next to Lagos,Port Harcourt city ,the State Capital is one of the largest cities in the country and contributes significantly to the nation financially.”he said..

He also explained that peace building is a collective efforts,and solicits for the support and cooperation of Rivers state government towards effective coordination and promotion of peaceful atmosphere.

In a remark, the Speaker,Rivers State House of Assembly represented by the Clerk Dr G.M Gills West commended the efforts and commitment of UNPOLAC in promoting peaceful coexistence, reiterated the commitment of the state Assembly in advancing the course of peace in the state and country at large.

Earlier in her remarks, the Country President of UN POLAC,Prof Fumi Davies called for proactive measures by Peace advocates and stakeholders towards maintenance as well as sustainace of Peace and Security in the Country,and also restoration of human dignity.

The Convention with the theme”Effective Reconciliation Process to Enhance Peaceful Coexistence Amongst the Citizenry “also featured awards presentation to Peace Advocates,that ,includes the Executive Governor of the State,Siminalayi Fubara with the highest award as the Grand Commander of Peace,the Speaker Rivers state house of Assembly is Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo among others.
