WISE advocates more Safety and Healthier Workplace
An Associate Professor of Occupational Health Safety,Environment and the Administrator of Women in Safety Excellence(WISE) of America Society of Safety Professionals, Dr Cynthia Amaka Obiorah has called on government at all levels to initiate policies aimed at promoting safer workplace as well as healthier lifestyle.
Dr Cynthia Obiorah made this call at the just concluded HSE (Health Safety Environment) Summit in Port Harcourt Rivers State, Nigeria.
The HSE SUMMIT was hosted by Quality and Management Systems Auditors Institute (QMSAI), headed by Mr Cletus Akhigbe, who is the Director and CEO of QMSAI. The SUMMIT was proudly supported by WISE, an interest group in America Society of Safety Professionals(ASSP) Nigeria Chapter.
While highlighting the importance of HSE in the workplace, the WISE administrator urged for effective implementation strategies
Dr. Obiorah also emphasizes the importance of a safe and healthy work environment, how it helps prevent occupational diseases, and promotes overall well-being, which in turn leads to
‘Increased Productivity,’ According to her, a safe and healthy work environment boosts employee morale, motivation, and productivity.
The associate professor also explains the importance of HSE in promoting a healthier lifestyle, which she said includes
Promoting Wellness HSE initiatives to adopt healthy habits, such as regular exercise, healthy eating, and stress management.
A safe and healthy work environment helps reduce stress, which is a major contributor to various health problems and
improves Work-Life Balance, which in turn promotes a healthy balance between work and personal life, leading to improved overall well-being.
The WISE administrator also Encourages Sustainable Practices, that is HSE initiatives that promote environmentally friendly practices, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and using eco-friendly products.
The WISE administrator used the occasion to create awareness and educate women in a safety profession about WISE. She said that ASSP WISE promotes the equity and advancement of women in the safety profession and brings members together to advocate on occupational safety and health (OSH) issues specific to women in the workplace.
WISE strives to continuously influence industry to address current and future safety challenges affecting women in the workforce locally, nationally and globally,
networking and collaboration opportunities abound
Dr Cynthia Obiorah who stressed the need to promote equity and advance the course of women in Safety Profession, reiterated the commitment of WISE in addressing current and future Safety challenges affecting women in the workplace locally and globally.
She said that WISE envisions a future where women thrive in a safe, supportive, and inclusive work environment. Also, speaking at the occasion,the Programme Officer of ASSP WISE Nigeria Chapter,
Bukunola Ayo called for a collective approach towards occupational safety as well as a healthier professional lifestyle.
The WISE programe officer also said that ASSP WISE id working htirelessly to promote safety and inclusivity for women in the workforce irrespective of tribe, language, religion, and age
