MTN mPulse Honours Ikenna Ikechukwu at Glorious Covenant School

MTN Nigeria’s mPulse team has honoured Ikenna Ikechukwu, the 2024 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee champion, with a special visit to his school, Glorious Covenant School, Rivers State.

The event, held on 22 January 2025, celebrated Ikenna’s remarkable achievement while reinforcing MTN’s commitment to education and digital empowerment.

Ikenna emerged as the Spelling Bee champion at the grand finale in Lagos in November 2024 after flawlessly spelling the word “Cornucopia.” His victory earned him a ₦5 million scholarship, a laptop, a smartphone, and an mPulse goody bag. In recognition of the school’s role in nurturing young talent, MTN also donated 10 laptops and 10 MTN 5G routers to Glorious Covenant School, equipping students with tools to enhance their learning experience.

Speaking at the event, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria, applauded Ikenna’s determination and the impact of the competition. “This competition is about more than just spelling; it celebrates hard work, talent, and the power of education. We are incredibly proud of Ikenna and excited to support his school with the resources needed to inspire more young minds,” she said.

The visit served as both a celebration and a call to action for other students across the country. MTN’s mPulse Spelling Bee, an initiative designed to enhance literacy and academic excellence among Nigerian students, continues to grow in impact. The competition encourages students to build confidence, sharpen their vocabulary, and embrace the possibilities of digital learning.

Teachers and students at Glorious Covenant School expressed gratitude for the support, acknowledging the significance of MTN’s investment in education. The donated laptops and routers are expected to revolutionise digital learning at the school, giving students access to educational resources that will enhance their academic journey.

Beyond his victory, Ikenna’s success has positioned him for a unique leadership experience. As part of his reward, he will assume the role of “MTN CEO for a Day,” an opportunity that will offer him firsthand insight into corporate leadership. Reflecting on his journey, Ikenna shared his excitement and hopes for the future. “Winning this competition has been life-changing. I hope my story inspires other students to believe in themselves, work hard, and reach for their dreams,” he said.
