Twelve inmates have escaped from the Federal Correctional Centre in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, in the early hours of Monday, raising security concerns in the area.

Kogi State Information Commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured the public that the government and security agencies are working to prevent a recurrence.

Authorities have already re-arrested one of the escapees, while investigations are underway to determine how the inmates managed to break out without causing structural damage. Fanwo hinted at the possibility of internal sabotage and called for a thorough probe into the incident.
