JUST IN: New Pope Elected: Robert Prevost Makes History as First American Pontiff
Pope Leo XIV,
Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as the new Catholic Pontiff and successor to Pope Francis.
He is to be officially known as Pope Leo XIV.
The first American to occupy the extalted office, Prevost was the Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Bishops (Leader of the Vatican office for the appointment of Bishops).
