NCC Commissions E-Health Project in Akure to Revolutionise Healthcare Through ICT
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially commissioned a landmark e-Health project at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State, marking a major step in the integration of technology into Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, described the project as a significant milestone in the Commission’s ongoing commitment to leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to transform the health sector.
“This commissioning attests to our collective efforts to harness the power of ICT to improve and revolutionise the health sector in Nigeria in a manner that better serves citizens,” Dr. Maida said.
According to him, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy through two main pathways: integrating the health sector into the digital ecosystem and ensuring that citizens, as beneficiaries of improved healthcare, can actively participate in the digital economy.
He noted that the deployment of e-health solutions would streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and facilitate the efficient management of health records, ultimately improving the quality of service and accessibility across the country.
“With the State Specialist Hospital in Akure now equipped with innovative technology, healthcare professionals can deliver timely and accurate diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care,” he stated. “The benefits go beyond hospital walls to positively impact the larger community and set a model for other healthcare institutions nationwide.”
Dr. Maida attributed the project’s success to strong collaboration among stakeholders, including technology experts, healthcare professionals, and government agencies. He emphasized that this partnership has created a scalable model that could be replicated in other regions to further extend the reach of ICT in healthcare.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to all contributors, highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration to ensure continuous progress and innovation in Nigeria.
“With pride and hope, I hereby commission this e-Health project,” he declared.
The project is expected to significantly boost healthcare delivery in Ondo State and serve as a blueprint for similar ICT-driven health interventions
