Ofala 2025 Ends on a High as Glo Presents Car, Other Prizes to Promo Winners
Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has recorded another milestone as it powered the 2025 Ofala Festival to a successful conclusion, reaffirming its status as Nigeria’s biggest supporter of culture.
This year’s festival featured the Iru Ofala on Friday and the Azu Ofala on Saturday at the Ime Obi — the two major ceremonies that make up the grand Ofala Festival, a time-honoured tradition of the people of Onitsha.
The Obi of Onitsha made a grand entry at Iru Ofala after weeks in spiritual retreat, symbolizing his readiness to lead his people into a new year of prosperity. Clad in regal attire, he received homage from chiefs, titled men, subjects, and dignitaries, including the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu; former Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha; former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi; and Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Obi Asika.
The Obi commended Globacom for its continuous sponsorship of the festival for over 14 years, expressing gratitude for the mutual relationship between the telecom company and the Onitsha community.
The Azu Ofala, which marked the festival’s grand finale, was filled with thanksgiving and celebration. During the event, Globacom added excitement by presenting prizes to winners of the Ofala Promo, a four-week promotional campaign organized for the people of Onitsha.
Prizes included a brand new Kia Picanto, two tricycles (Keke), power generating sets, and grinding machines.
The Kia Picanto was won by Chidinma Esther Obi, a businesswoman from 33 area of Onitsha, who received the car keys from Onitsha royal chief, Chief Albert Ibekwe, and Globacom’s representative, Tochukwu Okechukwu.
Winners of the tricycles were Ibeziakor Onyebuchi Anthony and Ejike Chiememma Gloria, while several others went home with power generators and grinding machines.
