LASG Directs Communities to Open Gated Streets Daily During Festive Period
The Lagos State Government has urged residents and communities operating gated streets to comply strictly with existing guidelines by ensuring that all approved gates are opened daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the festive period to facilitate smooth traffic flow across the state.
The government also directed owners of unauthorised gates and structures erected on public roads without approval from the Ministry of Transportation to remove them within seven days of the notice.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Transportation, the directive was described as part of efforts to uphold established state regulations and advance the THEMES+ Agenda of the current administration, which prioritises free movement of traffic, safety of lives and property, and the promotion of ease of doing business in Lagos State.
While acknowledging the security advantages associated with gated streets, the ministry stressed the importance of maintaining unrestricted vehicular movement, especially on alternative routes currently witnessing increased traffic due to heightened travel, commercial activities, tourism and entertainment associated with the festive season.
The ministry assured residents that enforcement measures would be put in place to guarantee free access in and out of all gated streets, with the aim of preventing traffic congestion and safeguarding lives and property.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that tourism, commerce and travel remain safe, seamless and enjoyable for residents and visitors during the festive period and beyond.
The statement was electronically signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and dated December 23, 2025.
