The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding water transportation as a key pillar of Lagos mobility under the Omi Eko Project.

Osiyemi made this known on Friday during a courtesy and strategic visit to the Lagos State Ferry Services. The visit formed part of his ongoing engagements with agencies under the Ministry of Transportation to align strategies and priorities for the year.

Earlier in the week, the Commissioner had visited other transport agencies, including the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, Lagos State Waterways Authority and Lagos Bus Services Limited.

During those visits, he held discussions with management teams on strategic plans and priority initiatives for 2026.

At LAGFERRY, Osiyemi was received by the Managing Director, Hon Abdoubaq Ladi Balogun, who presented the agency’s achievements for 2025 and outlined operational plans and growth targets for 2026.

The Commissioner commended LAGFERRY for the transformation recorded on Lagos waterways in recent years and stressed the need to fully harness the vast potential of water transportation as a sustainable and efficient alternative to road travel.

He said the Omi Eko Project would play a critical role in repositioning water transport in the state through the construction of new jetties, dredging of additional routes and the deployment of 75 electric ferries across key corridors.

Osiyemi urged all agencies under the Ministry to work with a shared vision, clear strategy and strong inter agency collaboration to ensure the successful delivery of the Ministry’s objectives for 2026.
