Zamfara Moves To Build Digital Future As Governor Lawal Approves IT Institute Bill
Governor Dauda Lawal has signed into law a bill establishing the Zamfara Institute of Information Technology, a major step toward strengthening the state’s digital economy.
The signing, held at the Government House in Gusau, provides the legal backing and operational structure for the new institute, which is expected to nurture a new generation of technology driven professionals.
Dr Habib Gajam, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency, described the development as a deliberate move toward building a knowledge based economy.
He said the institute will equip young people with modern digital skills and help position Zamfara as a rising innovation centre in Northern Nigeria.
According to him, the institute will concentrate on high demand fields such as software development, cybersecurity, data science and artificial intelligence.
Although it will be located in Gusau, its impact is expected to extend across the Northwest and other parts of Northern Nigeria.
Government officials and other stakeholders present at the event praised the governor’s action, calling it a strong commitment to economic diversification through technology.
Youth organisations and members of the tech community have also welcomed the initiative, expressing confidence that it will create new opportunities, reduce unemployment and encourage innovation in the state.
