Governor Dauda Lawal has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, blaming persistent internal conflicts within the opposition party for his decision.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued from the Government House in Gusau, marking a major political shift in Zamfara State.

According to the statement, the governor cited ongoing internal crises, leadership disagreements, and unresolved structural issues within the PDP as factors that influenced his decision to leave the party.

Lawal said the situation within the PDP had reached a point where it was beginning to hinder effective governance and the delivery of essential services to the people of the state.

He explained that the decision followed weeks of consultations with political stakeholders, community leaders, and citizens across the fourteen local government areas of Zamfara.

The governor noted that feedback from the consultations indicated that the internal disputes within the PDP were creating distractions that could undermine efforts to deliver development and democratic dividends to the people.

The final decision was reached during a meeting at the Government House attended by senior government officials and political stakeholders, where participants agreed to move to the APC in order to strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government.

Lawal thanked members and supporters of the PDP for their support and contributions during his time in the party but stressed that his priority remains the peace, security, and development of Zamfara State.

He said aligning with the APC would help improve collaboration with the Federal Government and create better opportunities to address the security and economic challenges facing the state.

The governor also urged residents and political actors in the state to remain calm and united as the state enters a new political phase focused on stability and development.
