The Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) is targeting a ₦100 trillion portfolio as part of a long-term strategy to mobilise institutional capital and support Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MOFI, Dr Armstrong Ume Takang, disclosed the ambition ahead of his keynote address at the FDX by GITEX Nigeria Summit scheduled for Lagos on September 3, 2026.

Takang said achieving Nigeria’s economic ambition would require the country to move beyond policy formulation to the effective mobilisation of institutional capital for investment in strategic sectors.

He said MOFI was focused on professionalising the management of government-owned assets while building a large-scale portfolio capable of catalysing investment, strengthening strategic sectors and creating sustainable national value.

“Unlocking Nigeria’s US$1 trillion economic ambition requires moving beyond policy intent to the effective mobilisation of institutional capital,” Takang said.

According to him, the agency’s long-term vision is to build a ₦100 trillion portfolio, which would provide greater capacity to channel capital into productive investments and support sustainable economic growth.

The MOFI chief said the FDX platform would provide an opportunity to connect policymakers, investors and innovators and advance partnerships required to accelerate Nigeria’s economic transformation.

The development comes as Nigeria seeks to deepen its capital markets, attract long-term investment and leverage technology to improve the efficiency of its financial ecosystem.

FDX by GITEX Nigeria, holding at Landmark Centre, Lagos, is expected to bring together regulators, institutional investors, enterprises and high-growth startups to discuss capital mobilisation, digital finance, financial inclusion, digital assets, capital markets and cross-border finance.

Takang said stronger collaboration among these stakeholders would help position Nigeria as a leading financial and investment hub while supporting the country’s broader economic transformation agenda.

The summit is part of the second edition of GITEX Nigeria, which is being held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supported by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The event is also endorsed by the Lagos State Government and organised by KAOUN International, the global organiser of GITEX events.

With Nigeria targeting a $1 trillion economy, the proposed ₦100 trillion MOFI portfolio could become a major vehicle for mobilising domestic and institutional capital into productive sectors, particularly if supported by stronger investment frameworks, transparent asset management and deeper capital-market participation.
