Fuel Supply Faces Disruption as NUPENG Prepares to go on Strike

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has announced its intention to join an indefinite nationwide strike, which has been called by the Organised Labour, starting Monday.

In a statement issued on Saturday, NUPENG General Secretary Afolabi Olawale confirmed the union’s commitment to fully participate in the strike.

This move follows the directive from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), who have declared the strike to protest the Federal Government’s refusal to implement a new minimum wage.

Olawale expressed deep concern over the Federal Government’s handling of the minimum wage negotiations, criticizing its insensitivity to the plight of Nigerian workers. He highlighted the detrimental impact of current socio-economic policies on the working population, urging union leaders at all levels to prepare for comprehensive participation in the strike.

As the strike looms, the potential for widespread fuel shortages across Nigeria increases, adding another layer of urgency to the ongoing labour dispute.
