ARCON Set To Hold 2024 Advertising Industry Colloquium, Launches Advertising Journal June 27

The Advertising Regulatory Council Of Nigeria (ARCON) is set to hold the second edition of its annual Advertising Industry Colloquium (AIC)  on 27th June 2024 at 8:00 am at the Sheba Events Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

The event with the theme “Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Advertising Education and Professional Excellence in Nigeria” aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. It will be declared opened by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,  Alhaji Mohammed Idris.  Also,  the ARCON Journal of Advertising and Marketing Communications (AJAMC), a comprehensive collection of research in various advertising fields,  will be formally launched at the event.

 

Speaking at the press briefing held recently, the Director General, ARCON, Dr. Lekan Fadolapo, said “The purpose of the forthcoming event is to ensure that both the academic professionals and other professionals align together. “

 

He added that with the emergence of new technologies shaping the advertising industry, the event serves as a meeting point for stakeholders to chart a way forward. “Advertising tools are being introduced almost every time which is a critical aspect of our advertising,” he stated.

Fadolapo further explained that the new journal aims to make critical academic research accessible to industry professionals, enhancing the overall body of knowledge in advertising.

“The council is set to engage all stakeholders, hence! Presenting an advertising journal which is a collection of research in different ways will also contribute to the development of the industry.

“These will all contribute to the body of knowledge in the advertising sector, ” he said. 

 

Dr. Bayo Adekanmbi,  Founder, Data Science Nigeria is the keynote speaker of the event and he will be speaking on the theme alongside other notable professionals who will speak during the panel session. They include Prof. Abigail N. Ogwezzy  –  Dept. of Mass Communications, University of Lagos; Engr. Dozie Mbanefo, Managing Director, New Crystal Communications; Mr. John Ugbe,  MD/CEO, Multichoice Nigeria; Mr. Yinka Adebayo,  Head, Procurement,  Omnicom Media Group, West & Central Africa; Mr. Kelechi Nwosu,  MD, TBWA\Concept: and Mr. Tunji Adeyinka,  GMD, Republicom Group.

 

Expected to grace the event is Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa – Chairman/CEO, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as Guest of Honour; Professor Tahir Mamman – Hon. Minister of Education as Special Guest of Honour; and ARC. Sonny S. T. Echono, Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Fund (TETFund) as Chairman.

 

Speaking on the programme format and uniqueness of this year’s event,  Prof. Rotimi Olatunji, Chairman, AIC and Academic Journal Committee said that the programme format will include: a keynote Address, Panel discussion, Public presentation of the maiden edition of ARCON Journal of Advertising and Marketing Communications (AJAMC), Creative advertising pitch competition involving eight tertiary institutions drawn from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria,  and Job fair. 

 

“The Colloquium presents unique opportunities for academics and students of Mass Communication, Advertising, and other integrated marketing communication (IMC) components to engage with professionals in advertising and IMC, media practitioners, policymakers, and regulatory agencies. Together, they will critically explore strategies for leveraging emerging technologies to achieve sustainable advertising education and professional excellence in Nigeria.”

 

He added, “This event offers unique opportunities for  the fusion of town and gown to  critically explore issues  and strategies for harnessing emerging technologies for sustainable advertising education and professional excellence in Nigeria.”
