The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has commended the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for successfully running the revamped Port Harcourt Refinery non-stop for 180 days.

The refinery, dormant for over two decades, was rehabilitated through a loan secured from Afreximbank and executed by Tecnimont Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of the Maire Tecnimont Group.

PETROAN in a statement signed by its PRO, yesterday praised Tecnimont Nigeria Limited for its professionalism and expertise in delivering a world-class rehabilitation project and acknowledged the cooperation of host communities in supporting the refinery’s revival. Since its commissioning in October 2024, the refinery has operated continuously, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s refining capacity.

The association noted that its members are currently loading Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and Dual-Purpose Kerosene (kerosene) from the refinery, while NNPCL retail marketers are lifting Premium Motor Spirit (petrol). This development has ensured a steady supply of petroleum products and curbed the circulation of adulterated kerosene and diesel in the market.

PETROAN extended special commendation to the Managing Director of Port Harcourt Refining Company, Engr. The association also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making funds available for the refinery’s rehabilitation, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Senator Heineken Lokpobiri for his oversight, and NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Mele Kyari for his commitment to the project.

Additional commendations went to Mr. Hubb Stockman, Managing Director of NNPC Retail Ltd, for effective product marketing, the Executive Vice President of NNPCL Downstream for strategic leadership, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for regulatory support.

PETROAN lauded the government and NNPCL for their vision and commitment to revitalizing the nation’s refining sector, emphasizing that this achievement will enhance Nigeria’s energy security, bolster the economy, and create employment opportunities.
