The Lagos State Government has intensified enforcement of environmental regulations, sealing a property in Lekki over an unauthorized borehole.

Officials carried out the enforcement operation following the discovery that the property owner allegedly drilled a borehole without obtaining the required government approval.

Eyewitnesses said enforcement officers arrived at the premises and, after inspection, sealed the property on the spot for violating groundwater extraction regulations.

Authorities stressed that borehole drilling in the state is strictly regulated to protect groundwater resources and prevent environmental degradation. They warned that failure to comply with approval processes could result in penalties, including property sealing.

The government reiterated that all residents and property developers must secure permits before embarking on borehole projects, noting that unregulated drilling poses risks to the environment and public safety.

The latest action underscores the state’s renewed commitment to enforcing environmental laws and safeguarding its already strained water resources.
