Zamfara Governor Commends Troops for Recovering Livestock, Weapons from Bandits
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has praised security operatives for their continued efforts in the fight against banditry following the recovery of hundreds of rustled livestock, weapons and ammunition from suspected bandits in the state.
The commendation came after operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Zamfara State Police Command successfully recovered 329 cattle and 175 sheep during an operation in the Gambanda Forest of Gummi Local Government Area on Saturday.
Governor Lawal described the operation as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and protect communities affected by bandit activities across the state.
According to the governor, the successful recovery underscores the resilience, bravery and dedication of security personnel working under difficult conditions to restore peace and security in Zamfara.
He noted that police operatives engaged and overpowered the bandits during the operation, leading to the recovery of the livestock as well as weapons and ammunition believed to have been used by criminal elements.

Lawal said the achievement reflects the renewed determination of the Zamfara State Police Command to tackle banditry and safeguard the livelihoods of residents, particularly farmers and herders who have suffered repeated attacks from armed groups.
The governor also commended the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammad Bello, stating that his strategic guidance has contributed significantly to improving public safety and strengthening the fight against criminal activities in the state.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies through the provision of necessary resources and collaboration aimed at enhancing security operations.
Zamfara remains one of the states most affected by banditry in northwestern Nigeria, with security forces intensifying operations to dismantle criminal networks, recover stolen property and restore normalcy in affected communities.
The latest recovery is expected to provide relief to affected livestock owners while reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb the activities of bandits operating within the state’s forests and rural communities.
