GTBank emerges Nigeria’s Best Overall Performing Bank in The Banker’s 2026 global rankings
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), the flagship banking subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) Plc, has been named the Best Overall-Performing Bank in Nigeria in The Banker’s Top 1000 World Banks Rankings 2026.
The annual rankings, published by The Banker magazine, assess banks worldwide using audited financial statements and key performance indicators, including financial strength, operational efficiency, risk management, liquidity, growth and profitability.
According to the publication, GTBank ranked first overall among Nigerian banks and also emerged as number one in the categories of Efficiency and Soundness. The bank placed second in Return on Risk, Liquidity, Growth, Leverage and Profitability, reflecting strong performance across several key banking metrics.
Commenting on the recognition, Managing Director of GTBank, Miriam Olusanya, described the award as a reflection of the bank’s commitment to operational excellence and customer value.
She attributed the achievement to the dedication of the bank’s employees, the confidence of its customers and the support derived from being part of the GTCO Group.
According to her, the rankings underscore GTBank’s disciplined approach to banking and reinforce its determination to continue improving service delivery while creating value for customers, shareholders and other stakeholders.
The latest recognition adds to GTBank’s growing list of international awards and comes amid sustained competition within Nigeria’s banking industry, where lenders continue to strengthen capital positions, improve digital banking capabilities and enhance operational efficiency following regulatory reforms and ongoing recapitalisation efforts.
The Banker, a publication of the Financial Times Group, is widely regarded as one of the leading global authorities on banking performance, with its annual Top 1000 World Banks ranking serving as a key benchmark for assessing the financial health and competitiveness of banks worldwide.
