Nigeria Stock Market Extends Losses… ASI Falls 0.1%
The domestic bourse closed lower for a second straight session as sell pressure on GTCO (-1.1%), ZENITH (- 0.9%), and INTBREW (-4.9) weighed on market performance indices. Thus, the NGX All-Share Index and market capitalisation fell 0.1% and ₦34.9bn respectively to 47,296.07 points and ₦25.5tn while YTD return trimmed to 10.7%. Trading activity was mixed as volume traded declined 17.3% to 231.7m units while value traded rose 63.3% to ₦6.8bn.
Across our coverage sectors, performance was bearish as all indices closed in red, save the AFR-ICT index which gained 0.2% on buying interest in MTNN (+0.5%). Leading the laggards, the Insurance index shed 1.4% dragged by AIICO (-1.4%) and WAPIC (-4.2%). Trailing, the Consumer Goods and Banking indices lost 0.7% and 0.6% respectively due to price decline in INTBREW (-4.9), GUINNESS (-4.4%), ZENITH (-0.9%), and UBA (-0.6%). Also, sell pressure on ARDOVA (-4.0%) and CAP (-10.0%) pulled the Oil & Gas and Industrial Goods indices 0.1% and 3bps lower respectively. Investor sentiment, as measured by market breadth, weakened to -0.35x from -0.32x as 12 stocks gained, 34 stocks lost while 63 closed flat.
