The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) has expressed optimism that its protracted cries to the authorities on the need to constitute its Governing Council may soon yield positive results.

Acting Registrar to the Council, Ijedi Iyoha, who gave indications to this effect, said it was indeed desirable having in place a Governing Council for the advertising industry’s apex regulatory body expressing optimism that the government will soon constitute a Council for APCON.

She explained that the national advertising conference organised by the Council recently offered an opportunity for the industry to reflect on her internal and external interests and to determine the best way of further improving the industry.

According to the Council her, though calls were made during the conference to show the desirability of having a Governing Council, the conference did not give an ultimatum to the constituting authorities. She added, however, that a governing council for APCON was earnestly being expected.

“We believe that a Governing Council will be in place soon. The national advertising conference was an opportunity for the advertising industry to have a reflection on her internal and external interests and to determine the best way to improve the industry.

“In as much as calls were made to show the desirability of a governing council, the conference did not give an ultimatum to the constituting authorities. It was not a protest to force the constitution of a Governing Council. Meanwhile, a Governing Council for APCON is still being expected,” she stated.

The Council boss in her assessment of the general performance of advertising industry operations in the country, especially in the course of the, just ended 2019 business year observed that the industry fared relatively well, pointing out, however, that the drawbacks in performance were owed largely to the general elections that happened in the country during the period in view.
