The Lagos State government says plans are ongoing to begin a digitised critical operation of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, particularly, the stage certification, monitoring and urban renewal processes through the State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA); State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) respectively.

According to the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, who disclosed this after receiving proposals from experts on the initiatives at the State Secretariat, the proposal for the digitization of critical activities of the ministry is intended to facilitate real-time monitoring of the built environment for infractions with heavy reliance on technology to detect illegality.

This he said was also intended to monitor developments with approvals for stage certification, deploying Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and data for slum upgrading.

He described the proposals as preliminary steps towards aligning the activities of the Ministry with international best practices; he stated that the initiative is expected to yield many positive results, including increase performance, improve the orderliness and sustainability of the environment by reducing human elements and promoting digital monitoring of physical development in the State.
