Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has raised concerns over lack of commitment on the part of the Federal Government to address the collapse in the different sectors of the economy.

TUC president, Comrade Quadri Olaleye, also said that it is fast beginning to lose faith in government at all levels due to the spate of security challenges recorded across different parts of the country amongst other reasons.

“We want to seize this opportunity to unequivocally state here that Nigerians are worried and angry. We are fast beginning to lose faith in government at all levels.

“Of what good is this religious event to our leaders when they have deliberately refused to show love to fellow Nigerians? The Covid-19 pandemic has given a deadly blow to the whole world and further exposed our collapsed health sector and weak economy.

“We are against the government taking more loans when they cannot account for the recovered loot, monies from fuel hike, Value Added Tax (VAT), etc.”

He also called on the Federal and Kaduna State governments to immediately stop the mass killings in the country noting that from available reports, apart from the killings by the Boko Haram sect, people are being killed in Katsina, Benue, Southern Kaduna, Zamfara, including children and women.

“We cannot go on like this. These killings must stop and culprits and their sponsors brought to book. A new and peaceful Nigeria is possible if we practice what we preach. Hypocrisy has taken so much from us. We must all turn a new leaf now before it is too late.

While congratulating all Nigerians especially the Muslim faithful on this special occasion of Sallah celebration, Olaleye also urged everyone to imbibe the lessons of total submission and obedience to the will of Almighty Allah.

“In this Is Kabir, we all must continue to be guided by the lessons of ultimate sacrifice to almighty Allah. We have every reason to be thankful to Allah (SWT) for the gift of life and good health to witness this day,  notwithstanding the numerous challenges the country is confronted with.

“We urge Muslims to emulate the Holy Prophet Mohammed by imbibing the ideals of sacrifice by extending a hand of friendship and solidarity across all divides, bearing in mind that we are strangers in this world. This is an auspicious opportunity for us to reflect, pray for the nation and for once determine to do the right thing.

“Finally, we say to the Muslims that making a sacrifice of the ram will be fine if you have the financial capacity to do so. No wherever is it made compulsory if you do not have the means, be properly guided”, Olaleye said.
