Crisis rocks AON amid election controversies

All is not well in the house of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) as a result of the purported election held recently in Lagos by some members of the association.

Some aggrieved members of AON have described the election as not reflecting the wish of other excluded members.

In fact, one of the aggrieved members of AON and the Chairman of West link airlines, Capt. Ibrahim Mshelia said those who conducted the election excluded some members of the association without calling every member to the election.

“I will always stand with truth and justice. In my opinion, what has been happening in AON since the meeting of 5th February fell way below my expectation of fairness, truth, equity and justice. I fought hard and tried to get us to address the issues fairly and squarely before we proceeded with the election. All that fell on deaf ears it would now appear.”

“Now that they have held the AGM with some members; left out some other members and went ahead to elect executives for AON as I have now heard. The question on my mind now before I find the right moment to ask it is; have they now split AON? If they have, into how many, and where do they put the invited and those not invited?”

Mshelia revealed that there were issues raised at their 5th February meeting which they ought to have resolved before the AGM but went ahead to exclude some members and conducted the election.

The elections of new executives of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) took the industry by storm after months of delay occasioned by discontentment of procedures within the ranks of the group, but until the group get its act together and rectify what some members describe as anomalies, the chasm within the group would grow.

The AON elected Alh. Dr Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina as the New Chairman, with Barrister Allen Onyema as his Vice Chairman taking over from Captain Nogie Meggison who ran the affairs of the group.

“What’s been going on since our 5th February 2020 meeting where so many decisions were taken but yet to be ratified is better kept in-house to AON because I feel so embarrassed personally at some of the actions,” Mshellia concluded.
