Head of Operations, Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (BASEMA), Dr Abubakar Gabarin says not less than 17 local government areas are affected by floods that destroyed property valued at N900 million in the state.

Gabarin named the affected local government areas to include Alkaleri, Kirfi, Jammare, Bauchi, Ningi, Zaki Giade, Itas Gadau Gamawa, Shira, Darazo, Dambam Bogoro, Katagum, Dass and Warji.

According to him, three people died as a result of the flood that submerged the state due to a downpour, adding that the flood destroyed 2,062 houses and 6,000 farmlands in the state this year.

He said the people whose households were washed away were now taking refuge in their neighbours’ houses and neighbouring villages.

Also, in a related development, floods have destroyed bridges along two major roads in Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The affected roads are the Jabbi-Lamba to Belel and Nguli to Belel, all running across a number of local government areas in Northern Adamawa.

“The communities have been completely cut off from the rest of the world,” Abubakar asserted, adding that the affected places being agrarian communities, many farmers are severely affected by the collapse of the two roads.
