KEDCO drags electricity thieves to court

Kano electricity distribution company KEDCO has described metre bypass and illegal connection, among others, as the biggest economic threats to the company and noted that those who engaged in these acts will be made to face the wrath of the law.

KEDCO’s MD, Dr Jamil Isyaku-Gwamna, cautioned that the company would no longer be lenient towards anyone found to be involved in these acts within its franchise areas.

This is contained in a statement issued by KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani-Shawai, on Monday in Kano.

The statement read: “The era of reaching out to beg by using third-parties after committing such crimes is over, as anyone found will have to defend themselves in court.

“Management’s decision was made to ensure that such unpleasant trends do not threaten KEDCO’s efforts to satisfy its many customers.

“We have started tracking with a view to uncovering any act of illegal connection and diversion of meters.”

Therefore, he appealed to customers to pay their bills promptly while providing KEDCO with vital information to reduce cases of a metre bypass and illegal connection.
