First Advertising Industry Colloquium 2023 to bridge academic, professional gaps

The Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, has said the Council’s first annual advertising industry colloquium would bridge the gap between the academic and the professional. 

Fadolapo revealed this on Wednesday at the ARCON media briefing held at L’eola hotel, Maryland Lagos.

According to him, the colloquium which is set to hold on 30th March 2023 at the Sheraton hotel in Lagos, will link the gap between the theory and the practical.

“The gap between the theory and practice is wide, as the regulator of the industry, in terms of business and practice, there is an urgent need for us to bridge the gap”.

Also, speaking at the briefing was the Chairman of the ARCON’s Advertising Industry Colloquium and Academic Journal Committee, Rotimi Olatunji, who noted that the Colloquium is a one-day event organised by the marketing communication industry sectorial groups powered by ARCON. Olatunji added that the

 Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, will declare the event open, and the theme of the Colloquium is “Changing Trends in Advertising Education and Practice in the Era of Globalisation: The Nigerian Perspective”.  

“The primary objective is to provide the forum for academics and students of Mass Communication, Advertising and other components of integrated marketing communication (IMC) to interact with professionals in Advertising and other components of IMC; media practitioners, policymakers and regulatory agencies.”
According to him, t

he keynote address will be delivered by Mr Idorenyen Enanq, and the panel discussion on diverse areas of marketing communication theory and practice, and creative pitch competition.

“The Colloquium will attract participation from the following sectorial groups:

All Heads of Departments of ARCON, accredited universities and polytechnics or mono-technics offering Advertising, Mass Communication, Marketing and related Marketing Communication courses in Nigeria.

“Academic staff and media production staff of ARCON, accredited universities and polytechnics or mono-technics offering Advertising, Mass Communication, Marketing and related Marketing Communication courses in Nigeria.Interested participants from Advertising Agencies and other advertising sectorial groups- OOH, MIPAN, Digital marketing, Voice-Over artists, Creative Shops, and Influencer marketing.

Others are; Print, broadcast and new media professionals, Brand Managers and other interested members performing Advertising/Marketing related functions in the industry; 

Advertising Practitioners both in the industry and agencies, and government establishments.

Also, directors and representatives of marketing communication regulatory bodies, including but not limited to the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), among many others.

It’s worthy of note that ARCON, under the leadership of Dr Lekan Fadolapo, constituted the Advertising Industry Colloquium and Journal Committee, to achieve the following objectives:  Planned, organize and implement the first Annual Advertising Colloquium for Academics and Professionals in the Marketing Communications industry.
