A respected Islamic scholar and the former Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, has told Muslims across the world never to depart from the lessons learnt during the just concluded Ramadan.

Ramadan is the Arabic name for the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. And it is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims and is marked by a period of fasting, considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Speaking at the NASFAT Meiran branch post-Ramadan lecture, themed: “And Seek Help With Patience And Payer”, held on Sunday, May 7th, 2023, Dr AbdulLateef noted that Ramadan serves as an example of how to continue living life to the will of the Almighty Allah.

While delivering the lecture, AbdulLateef urged the Muslim faithful to be steadfast in prayer as Ramadan has come to teach them how to live their lives beyond the blessed month.

According to him, the month of Ramadan comes and goes. We must examine ourselves now and see what we have learned and achieved during the glorious month.

“God has used Ramadan to teach us the proper ways to worship him and live lives to the will of Allah. We learn in this month how to discipline ourselves for the sake of Allah. In the morning and evening, we follow a strict schedule of eating and drinking.

“Then after Ramadan, we have to keep this spirit of discipline in other modes of our life and must continue with our submission to the commands of Allah.”

He added that fsting in the month of Ramadan helps to understand the suffering and pains of the poor and needy. “Through our voluntary hunger and thirst, we realize what it means to be deprived of the necessities of life.

“Ramadan is called the month of charity and sympathy. We learn how to be more kind and generous this month. Many Muslims also pay their Zakah in the month of Ramadan.”

The scholar, also urged Muslims to keep up with good conduct after the blessed month as the reward for good deeds is being able to execute more good. “Keep on giving to charity, feed the poor, help the needy, and support the orphan. These people need our help more beyond Ramadan”, he said

Encouraging Muslims to make up their missed fast, he urged such Muslims to make up thier missed fast from Ramadan, especially women, then follow it up with six more days in Shawwal as it gives the reward of fasting for 365 days.

“Revive your midnight Taajuud prayer spirit, as the Prophet peace be upon him used to observe eleven rakat. If you can’t do that, at least do two rakat with fathia and any convinient surah of choice.

“Pray your five daily prayers, and engage in a lot of dhikr, the morning and evening supplication. Upholds the sunnah fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. Always seek forgiveness from Allah through repentance.

“Keep the company of righteous people. Be fervent in prayers and trust Allah is the All-Hearing, the one who is Able to do all things”, he admonished.
