The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving road safety through continuous training, education and professional development of driving school operators and instructors.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated this at the 2026 Driving School Instructors and Operators Train-the-Trainer Workshop, themed “Enhancing Road Safety through Continuous Training and Education of Driving School Operators in Lagos State.”

Osiyemi stressed that driving schools have a critical role to play in producing responsible and safety-conscious drivers by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and right attitudes required for safe driving.

He called for stricter instructor certification, standardised training curricula, rigorous testing, background checks, periodic re-licensing and continuous professional development for driving school operators.

According to him, training programmes should cover key areas such as defensive driving, hazard perception, emerging vehicle technologies and changes in traffic regulations.

The Commissioner also advocated regular refresher courses for driving instructors, noting that the increasing number of vehicles on Lagos roads makes continuous capacity building essential to reducing road crashes, injuries and fatalities.
