FirstBank has dismissed as false claims circulating on WhatsApp that its FirstMobile application has been compromised, assuring customers that the platform remains secure and fully operational.

The bank said in a statement that a voice message alleging a security breach was fraudulent and misleading, urging customers and other stakeholders to disregard the message and rely on its verified communication channels for updates.

FirstBank said FirstMobile is supported by its information-security infrastructure and that it continues to invest in technology and cybersecurity measures to strengthen the resilience, reliability and security of its digital banking channels.

The bank also assured customers that their funds remained safe and that FirstMobile and its other digital platforms were operating securely.

The warning comes as Nigerian banks continue to expand digital banking services, making the security of mobile applications increasingly important to customer confidence and the stability of electronic financial transactions.

FirstBank urged customers not to share unverified information that could create unnecessary anxiety or encourage fraudulent activity.

The bank said customers should obtain information about the safety and operation of its digital channels only through its verified communication platforms.

The development highlights the growing importance of cybersecurity to the banking industry as more customers conduct payments, transfers and other financial transactions through mobile and online channels.

For banks, allegations of a platform breach can carry significant reputational and operational risks even when such claims are unsubstantiated, particularly where customers respond by withholding transactions, sharing sensitive information or transferring funds to fraudulent accounts.

FirstBank therefore urged customers to remain vigilant and avoid acting on unsolicited messages or unverified claims relating to their accounts or digital banking services.
