Lagos Mobilises MDAs for €410m Omi Eko Water Transport Project
The Lagos State Government has begun mobilising key government institutions for the implementation of the €410 million Omi Eko Project, a major initiative aimed at transforming the state’s waterways into a modern transportation network.
The government made the move during the maiden Omi Eko Project stakeholder engagement, which brought together representatives of various ministries, departments and agencies to strengthen coordination and secure collective commitment to the project.

The initiative seeks to improve water transportation, ease connectivity across Lagos and create economic opportunities through the development of a more efficient and sustainable waterways network.
The engagement provided an avenue for stakeholders to build a common understanding of the project’s objectives and strengthen collaboration among the government institutions expected to contribute to its implementation.
The Omi Eko Project is designed to promote water transportation as a safer, more accessible and environmentally sustainable alternative for commuters across Lagos.

Beyond transportation, the initiative is expected to support economic activities linked to the state’s waterways and contribute to the development of its blue economy.
The government said effective collaboration among the relevant MDAs would be critical to delivering the project’s objectives and establishing a modern water transport system that responds to the needs of Lagos residents.
