Broken But Beautiful: Don’t Let Pains Paralyze You, Says Chioma Okoye
The writer of Broken but Beautiful, Chioma Okoye, has urged Nigerians and people all over the world not to allow pains to paralyze them, but rather let it propel them.
Okoye said this at her Book launch event, Broken but Beautiful, held at the Oriental Hotel Victoria Island Lagos on Saturday, where she explained that pain has a way of clipping people’s wings and keeping someone from being able to fly and if left unresolved for a very long, such persons can almost forget that he or she were created to fly in the first place.
She, however, encouraged the audience at the event and every human being to surround themselves with beautiful people in and out, move closer to God, and let God direct them and meet them.
According to her, part of the reason why I write this book is when I lost my father, the pain is underrated but no one understands. Maybe because I have not lost someone so close to me before but people don’t understand my pain and why I should be in so much pain. But the Holy Spirit speaks to me that I should write a book. It was easy because as I was writing it was more than an experience for me.
“I am an emotional intelligence consultant, so I have emotions; I know that if I continue to have broken emotions, it will affect my family and my children. When you battle the emotions, you hijack the thinking”, she said.
Okoye added that part of the reason for writing the book is that people’s pain should not be underrated because pain is pain, it does not discriminate. You don’t know the reason for my pain so you should not underrates it.
“When pain is underrated it can cause you trapped emotions and trapped emotions are your true step being stopped by force to say what you meant to say because people don’t understand you.
“As a human being, we exhibit 400 emotions in 24 hours, it will be like 32.6, so you can imagine a person sitting beside you with a such number of emotions covered up and looking beautiful which no one knows, it could be negative or positive but most time it’s negative”, she further explained.
In the overview of the book, the writer noted: “I was deeply inspired by the words, “broken but beautiful. First comes broken – shattered and naked to change. As a person living in the 21st century, there is an insurmountable amount of pressure to conform through culture, especially in Africa, to our roles of mother, father, daughter, son, wife, husband, friend, and sister to the best of your ability – you must bear the pain without fully understanding why you are going through it or how to come out on the other side.
“Expect answers in this book – real-life scenarios and people who take us through their own personal journeys.
“This book will be your guide, hold it closely as you begin your journey through the harsh waters of change, learn how to go through the deep waters and come out on the other side – broken but beautiful”, she said.
Also, speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr Tony Obueke eulogizes how the writer, Chioma Okoye is beautiful in and out, adding that being broken is submission to adversity in life.
Obueke, however, noted that brokenness is a personal experience that makes one unrelenting, saying the book speaks about confidence and finding grace.
He, therefore, congratulated the writer for the successful launching of the book, while appreciating all the speaker that has spoken so far, those that shared their life experiences, which encouraged people that it would be beautiful at the end.
It is, however, worthy of note that Colleagues, Friends, families, and well-wishers were in their numbers to support the writer physically and financially at the launching of the book.
Some of the important personalities at the event include the Chairman of Folio Holdings Limited, and the Publisher of The Daily Times of Nigeria, Dr Fidelis Anosike, the Husband of the writer, Mr Okoye, and the Chairman of the occasion, Tony Obueke, among many others.
The Author, Chioma Okoye is a graduate of Sociology with a diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Jos, Plateau State. She has her NBA in the United Kingdom and has an Emotional Intelligence Certificate from a group and talent taunt in the United States of America.
