The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has stated that over 40 million telephone lines that have been blocked due to failure to link to National Identity Numbers face forfeiture soon.

Reuben Mouka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, stated in an interview on Tuesday that if the prohibited lines are not addressed during the next 180 days, they will be able to receive calls but not text or make calls.

He further noted that after the required days, the lines would be prohibited from making calls and would be forfeited after 365 days.

According to PUNCH, he added that the telephone lines barred by their telecommunication operators breached the February 28, 2024, deadline issued by the commission mandating telecom customers to link their Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) to their NIN.

He said, “If the barred lines are not acted upon in the next 180 days. They won’t be able to receive calls but will only be able to text and make calls. But after the stipulated days, they would be barred from making calls too. And might forfeit their lines to their respective service provider within 365 days.”
