LASG Collaborates With Private Operators to Roll Out Over 2000 CNG, Electric Buses
The Lagos State Government has collaborated with private operators under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to launch over 2000 CNG buses, in a bid to promote a Carbon-Free emission environment,
The Commissioner for Transportation,  Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Tuesday revealed this at Lagos State Government Year 2024  Ministerial Press Briefing, a Greater Lagos Rising held at Bagauda  Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
Osiyemi noted that the state government had continued to prioritize its intermodal transportation system to make life comfortable for Lagosians, putting in place a bus reform initiative, and collaborating with the private sector to build ferries as it adopts innovative technology in the sector.
He added that the state is set to launch a 24-hour toll free call centre to enhance the operations of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.
The commissioner explained further that
the state is also building bus terminals which are at various levels of completion as well as putting rail systems in place.
According to him, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation Task Force has in the last three months impounded over five thousand motorcycles in the state.
“The government had been embarking on advocacies on safety while collaborating with transport enforcement agencies in all States to bring sanity on the road.
Responding to questions, the Commissioner said the Ministry among other initiatives is currently surveying to ascertain the commercial buses needed per route to manage traffic efficiently.
Speaking earlier, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the briefing was in commemoration of the first year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and for MDAs to present their scorecards and achievements to the media as well as Lagosians.
Present at the Briefing were Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, Permanent Secretaries of Ministries, and state Government officials
