Small-scale Holder Farmers in Niger get Improved Castor Seeds

Small-scale holders farmers in Niger state have received free improved Castor seeds donated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

 

This donation was made in through Hajiya Afusat Babalola, a deputy director of Castor value chain, who stood in for the ministry at the event in Minna, Niger state capital.

 

In her remarks, she said the event was tailored at boosting the production of Castor in the state and the country at large.

 

According to the Minister, it was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope initiative geared toward repositioning the country’s fortunes.

 

Agriculture, he reiterated was at the front burner, stressing that his ministry was firmly committed to supporting agricultural activities.

 

The ministry has invested a large amount in interventions to boost crop production in the realization of its numerous benefits to our small-scale holders’ farmers.

 

He disclosed that the ministry has procured a total of 1,600KG of Castor foundation seeds to be distributed to farmers in Niger and Kaduna states respectively.

 

The benefitting Castor farmers are therefore encouraged to make the best use of the opportunity to boost production and increase their income for a better livelihood.

 

According to him, the ministry remains resolute in “taking our agriculture to the promised land where our farmers would be very proud of their profession.

 

The State Coordinator in charge of Niger, Dr. Ladan Suleman, while speaking explained the numerous benefits derivable from the Castor seeds.

 

He assured that the ministry would link up the farmers to buyers by adding that Castor oil was good in about thirteen ways including Transformer Oil and Air Crafts as well for their oil.

 

However one of the benefits, Mallam Hassan Audu who claimed to have been farming Castor seeds for three years now appealed to assist them with crushers during harvesting.

 

He said that the seed took between four to five months to grow, depending on the type of Land.
